Frequently Asked Questions

What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic is more than just adjusting joints — it’s about helping your body and brain communicate more clearly.

Every second, your body sends millions of messages to your brain. These messages come from your spine, muscles, joints, fascia, and organs. They help your brain understand how your body is moving, how it’s feeling, and how it’s responding to the world around you.

When everything is working well, your brain gets clear, accurate information — and sends the right messages back out to help you adapt, move, and function with ease.

But sometimes, things like tight muscles, poor posture, joint restriction, or even stress can create "noise" in that communication. The messages get fuzzy. Your nervous system can become overloaded, reactive, or stuck — and that can show up as tension, fatigue, overwhelm, pain, or simply feeling off.

Chiropractic care helps reduce that noise.
It restores natural movement, calms the nervous system, and supports clearer communication between your brain and body — so you can focus on what truly matters: healing, growing, connecting, and feeling more like yourself.

What does chiropractic actually do?

Chiropractic care helps your body function better by improving the way your nervous system communicates with the rest of you.

We work with your spine, joints, fascia, and cranial system to restore natural movement and reduce interference to the nervous system. That means better brain-body communication — which can affect everything from posture and breathing to digestion, sleep, balance, and how calm or alert you feel.

In children, chiropractic care helps support healthy development by working with their natural reflexes, movement patterns, and sensory systems. In adults, it can support nervous system regulation, posture, and mobility — and help you shift from “just getting through” to feeling more in flow.

It’s gentle, specific, and tailored to your needs. And it’s about more than back pain — it’s about how your whole system works together.

Will I feel comfortable talking about things like pelvic pain, periods, postpartum recovery, or menopause?

Yes. Absolutely.

At Function to Flow, we know that sometimes the things that most affect your health are also the hardest to talk about. Whether it's period pain, prolapse, painful sex, leaking when you laugh, fatigue that won’t lift, or just that feeling that something’s “off” — you are welcome to talk about it here.

I’ve had those experiences too. Part of what brought me into women’s health was my own story of not feeling seen or understood in the healthcare system. Over time, I realised how powerful it is to be truly listened to — and how important it is to offer that space to others.

We start with in-depth questionnaires that help connect the dots between your symptoms and your story. You’ll get a sense right away that we care about the whole picture — not just one symptom at a time.

And yes… I’ve heard every kind of story, symptom, and question over the years. Nothing embarrasses me. I genuinely want to understand what’s going on in your body so we can support it — and you — with kindness and insight.

If you’re not ready to share everything right away, that’s also okay. We’ll go at your pace, and start from wherever you are.

What if I'm anxious, overwhelmed, or just not having a great day?

Then you’re in the right place.

Walking into a new space or trying something different — especially when you don’t feel your best — can be hard. Our clinic is designed to be gentle, calm, and welcoming. And we always adjust your care based on what your body and nervous system are ready for that day.

Some days, care is about taking a deep breath, downshifting the nervous system, and helping you feel a little more at home in your own body. That’s real progress too.

If you’re coming with children, we’ll make it easy for them to feel safe and settled. Some kids lie on the table. Some sit in a chair. Others get adjusted under a chair while pretending to be a dinosaur. (True story.)

We can also take your child’s history over the phone ahead of time, so you don’t have to talk about sensitive topics in front of them. That way, your visit can be about play, trust, and fun.

What can chiropractic care help with in babies and kids?

The way a child moves, breathes, swallows, and interacts with their world directly shapes how their brain develops.

From birth onward, your child’s brain is growing at an incredible pace — building pathways that will affect everything from movement and balance to behaviour, learning, digestion, and sleep.

But if early challenges show up — like difficulty with tummy time, feeding, rolling, crawling, coordination, or posture — it may signal that the nervous system is working harder than it needs to. These "noisy" signals can interfere with the smooth development of brain-body communication.

At Function to Flow, we assess your child’s:

  • Muscle tone and movement patterns
  • Milestone progression
  • Posture and reflexes
  • Breathing and oral function (swallowing, tongue movement, etc.)
  • Gut and immune function

We aim to support healthy development by gently guiding the nervous system toward balance and adaptability — helping your child move through their milestones with greater ease and flow.

When development flows well, children feel more settled in their bodies, more able to engage with their world, and better equipped to grow into healthy, resilient adults.

Do you refer to other healthcare providers when something is outside your scope?

Absolutely — and proudly.

One person doesn’t have all the answers, and I don’t believe you should be expected to get everything from one place. Over my 20 years in practice, I’ve built strong working relationships with a wide range of healthcare providers — and I deeply value the power of team-based care.

When something is outside my scope, I’ll always be honest with you — and I’ll help you find the right support. That might mean referring you to a GP, specialist, pelvic floor physiotherapist (we get incredible results when we work together!), speech pathologist, occupational therapist, or someone else whose skills complement the work we’re doing.

As a chiropractor, I bring a unique lens: a deep understanding of how your biology, neurology, and biochemistry interact — and how your body functions as one, whole system. My goal is to support your nervous system so that your body can adapt, heal, and respond better — including when you're working with other healthcare providers.

Together, we can build a care plan that helps you move from function to flow — with the right people on your team.
